Our success came thanks to two quick goals in the first. (Thiessen; Ritchie) This set the RNH scrambling and called a time-out.
The game settled in and the 2nd period was scoreless.
Crossin was called upon to make several big saves, including a wide-open breakaway. One goal slipped past our net minder in the 3rd. As a 2-1 game it got intense.
There were several penalties in the third. At one point we had a 5 on 3 but failed to capitalize. The RNH were taking penalties for body contact, roughing and the like.
We had 3+ penalties during the game as well, but you'll have to check the scoresheet for all the details.
In the dying minutes of the 3rd RNH pulled their goalie and made one last strong push. We pushed back and Lex Friesen scored an empty net goal to make it 3-1. A collective sigh of relief was felt by the BWK parents as the remaining seconds counted down in the game.
This means we have an early morning game on Saturday. Friday is a total day of rest.
Here's the tournament draw. We struggle to pronounce our opponent's name, and at this point, I am unsure where they are from. (Will update once I see the coaches.)
