Pin trading is a significant part of the rich tradition that is
Le Tournoi Pee Wee de Quebec. As an act of sportsmanship and friendship, the opposing teams will meet at centre ice to exchange gifts before each game (including exhibition games).
Players have also received their own personal collection of custom Brandon Wheat King Pins to save, or trade with other players they should meet during the course of the 10 day event.
This afternoon player moms and Carter's sister Kassidy were busy organizing and preparing our pin gift packages. It was a big job, but with many hands and lots of laughs it was a breeze. Kassidy entertained us with her story... 'The great cheese caper" from earlier in the day at IGA. Seems a kindly clerk, offering product samples, thought dear Kassidy was 'sa petite souris' (her little mouse) and kept passing her cheese samples whether she wanted them or not!
Players decided to forgo their afternoon of bowling and instead preferring to stay at the arena to watch other teams play and practice. There are 120 teams, from around North America and the world, participating. The Russian Red Army is not in our division, so we will not see them on the ice, however we did get a glimpse of them arriving at the airport. That in itself was kind of exciting.
It is easy to see that our players will remember their time here in Quebec for more than just the games. To have the opportunity to meet players from other countries, who all share the very same passion for hockey, will be an enriching experience.
