The players were in awe of Le Collisee Pepsi and all that was their tournament introduction day. The dressing rooms had TVs in them! Did you hear that? There were TVs in the dressing room! Huge dressing rooms. Absolutely huge. (Well, not that unbelievable if your terms-of-reference is our Sportsplex.) But this arena DID used to house the Quebec Nordiques.
Everything here is first class and well organized. Rhonda was very impressed with the ease of check-in and registration for the team. It's like a military operation. It shows that they have 55 years of experience hosting this world-class event.
Speaking of military operations... the parents went grocery shopping. It was an event in itself! We filled a 15 passenger van to near capacity, bought enough bottled water, bananas and Vector cereal to survive a coup of a small country. We even managed to score a few bonus coffee cups. It seems they were giving away coffee cups as a gift with purchase... or at least that's what our broken French translating skills seemed to suggest. Good... because now our kids have something to eat their bed-time cereal in.
We are still waiting on the results of the 'great pizza ordering experiment.' We think we ordered pizza. We think we just ordered a few, but perhaps 16. Seems that not everyone in Quebec City in the hospitality sector speaks fluent English. We have had success with counter service, smiles and pointing at food, but ordering over the phone, well, the verdict is still out.
All in all, a fabulous day. The player curfew is just around the corner and the parents might even be asleep before the lights go out. Except for Jenn. A certain coach's wife was ID'd at the grocery store, which resulted in cheers from the peanut gallery as the rest of us certainly do not look young enough to be asked. 'sigh'
So to recap the highlights of the day.... big rink, super organized, everyone tired...Jenn looks 19. :)
Oh yeah, and it was crazy cold. Way too cold to walk anywhere. Like, prairie cold.
Goodnight from Quebec City and Happy Friday the 13th. Don't forget tomorrow is Valentine's day. Yes... it counts even if you're at a hockey tournament in Quebec.
